Advice Sessions

These are individual tuition sessions on a variety of subjects, these include –

Buying a puppy

If you are thinking of getting a dog, you are hopefully wanting it to become part of your family. Would it not be prudent to research which breed you are going to be living with for what will be hopefully be for at least 12 years. In this session I will talk you through  different breeds of dogs, whether they are suitable for your lifestyle, what health issues affect your chosen breed of dog, where to find a good breeder, what to look for when you visit the breeder and what questions to ask.

Nutrition

You are what you eat according to your doctor, try to make sure that you eat 5 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables every day, avoid processed over cooked foods, and take regular appropriate exercise. This we are told is a recipe for good  health.

However, we feed our dogs exactly the opposite of this. We feed dry nuggets to our dogs which look nothing like real food, they often have different colours to make them look enticing to the eye of the owner, green nuggets to resemble the look of  peas, orange ones to resemble carrots etc. It is cooked at extremely high temperatures which compromises the nutritional value.

I along with many others have chosen to feed real food to our dogs. Having attended several courses in the USA and many seminars in the UK, I have been completely convinced that feeding a raw natural diet is the best thing that I can do for my dogs. I have been feeding my dogs raw natural food for nearly 11 years, I have also changed many dogs boarding in my care onto a natural diet (with owners permission) and have had amazing results.

Problems that can be helped with better nutrition—

Behaviour problems

Skin problems

Intestinal problems

Weight problems

General well being

General energy levels

Immune issues

And many more!

This advice session would be for me to discuss with you the pro’s and cons of feeding a natural diet, what type of food to feed and why and whether any supplements  would be recommended. If you are not interested in feeding a natural diet then the session would be tailored more to understanding what is in different dog feed, how to read and understand the labels on the dog food packaging  and discuss which type of dog food would be best for your dog.

Holistic Therapies

Like humans there are a vast number of holistic therapies which are available to help your pet. Do you know what these therapies are, or how they work for your animal? How do you choose which therapy therapy will best suit your pets needs? Philippa will discuss with you all of the different kinds of holistic therapies available to animals, their pro’s and con’s,  how to find a therapist, what to expect from consultations and what conditions each therapy can be used for. The session comes with full hand outs on each  therapy and a list  of further resources.

First aid

To help ensure the health of your animal and your family, a few preventative measures and a lot of common sense are important. Philippa will discuss with you what you should have in your first aid kit and how to use it. She  will teach you how to deal with accidents that your pet may have, so that you can safely and securely get them to the vet. Learn how to stop bleeding, deal with convulsions, choking, burns and scalds, general cuts and bruises, dog bites, wounds, shock, broken bones, heatstroke etc. Also learn how to recognize potential hazards and poisons in the home and garden.
