CASE STUDY 2 - CEDAR
Cedar is an 11 year old spayed chocolate Labrador female. Cedar has always been a very submissive dog, she is utterly trustworthy in every way, you could put her into a room full of babies and walk out and leave her. She is good with all dogs and it would never occur to her to lift a lip or stand up for herself in any way. she is extremely obedient, and it is mortifying to her if you tell her off, it is like her world has come to an end, she cringes as if she has been beaten (which has never happened). But apart from this she used to take everything into her stride. However over the last 4 years Cedar is becoming a shrinking violet, she is extremely introverted and shy, she has become extremely noise intolerant and generally very stressed and easily upset by many things. She shivers and shakes at the slightest thing, when her owners grandchildren come over, Cedar hides behind the furniture or desperately tries to get out of the room. She is also like this if her owner has a dinner party (however small). Physically Cedar is extremely arthritic, has laryngeal paralysis, underactive thyroid and a dull coat. The owner decided that she would rather send me some of Cedar’s hair to kinesiology test rather than possibly stressing her by making her come to somewhere new. After completing her kinesiology test and seeing where her energy weakness were I then strengthened them with the following, which I sent to her owner and asked her to offer them everyday. • Plai - An amazing pain reliever on joints and
muscles, for use when a cooling effect is needed not a deep heat effect. A
strong anti-inflammatory oil which is from the ginger family but gives cool not
heat. My Thoughts I was very surprised about the oils which strengthened the weak tests, none of the emotional oils that I thought would work came up. Instead oils for her physical body come up and gave enormous strength to the weak tests, so I trusted the test and maybe the emotional stress symptoms have come about through physical malaise and if this is sorted then it will help with her confidence. Cedar is absolutely obsessed with Spirulina, her owner says she becomes very animated, wags her tail manically and ‘woofles’ (which is extremely unlike Cedar to be so expressive). With the oils the one she was most keen on was Celery Seed, followed by Turmeric, followed by Plai. She is a very subtle dog to work with, showing gentle subtle signs to interpret, except for the Spirulina and then subtlety went out the window. Conclusion Cedar is a reformed dog, her coat has a healthy shine, she is not nearly as stiff in her back legs as she was and she seems generally much happier. Her owner is amazed, she has the grandchildren routinely 3 times a week after school (has done for 2 years), Cedar has for the last 2 years wanted to avoid the children like the plague, not because she is frightened of them, but because she seems unable to cope with the noise and stress which accompanies children and so always tried to leave the room or at the very least hides behind furniture. Her owner says that for the last 2 weeks Cedar has not even tried to leave the room when the grandchildren are there, she does not actively want to play with them, as this would still be too much for her to deal with, but she now lies comfortably on the rug in the play room with the children playing around her, her owner says she does not shiver or shake and does not appear stressed in any way and just chooses to stay around with everybody, even if the door is open allowing her to leave. Cedar has started to chase pigeons off the garden when they land, which is something she has never done before, her owner says she looks really pleased with herself and comes back with her tail wagging. Cedar is also becoming more assertive, she lives with a GSD called Ash who is a bit of a bully to Cedar and pulls her around by her tail, twice now Cedar has turned round and told Ash off, which is something she never does. Cedar generally seems to be much more free in her body and happy and confident in herself, I think that Cedar has possibly been in quite a lot of pain or discomfort for some time, and this has made her become reclusive and quiet because she cannot handle hustle, bustle and noise when she is in pain. I feel that the oils have greatly helped her on a physical level which in turn has helped her release a lot of emotional issues surrounding her physical problems. She is generally more at ease with life, her owner is thrilled. |
