In-House Boarding and Training
Sometimes,
due to lack of time, expertise or facilities, owners are not able to train their
dog adequately enough for what they want.
Dogs learn by repetition, and they need to have an exercise broken down into
small pieces, which when put together makes the whole picture. Each of the tiny
bits of the picture must be repeated several times before the dog truly knows
and understands what is being asked, before going onto the next progression.
This can be very time consuming.
When your dog comes in for boarding and training, Philippa a method based around
the Volhard Motivational Method, which is devised by leading trainers Jack and
Wendy Volhard in the USA. It is a sequential, positively reinforced method of
training, which always places the dog in a position of success.
Your dog will be taken to a new location to practice their new skills every day,
to ensure that the behaviour
becomes generalised to any location.
Your dog will be taught good basic manners i.e. not to barge through doorways,
pull on a lead, jump up at people, not to beg at the table and to recall. Any
other element of your dog’s behaviour that you wish to be addressed can be. A
multitude of behaviours can be addressed, from severe timidity and phobias, to
barging, pushing and larger lout type behaviour. No aggressive dogs will be
accepted for in house training, this needs to be addressed in private one to one
consults.
An initial training course is a minimum of 3 weeks. Your dog stays in Philippa’s
home and will have all of the love, care and affection as you would expect, but
also will have several one on one training sessions throughout the day, both in
the house and out and about.
At least 2 hours is spent with your family upon collection of your dog, to go
over everything you need to know in order to continue the education of your dog.
Follow up support and literature are given as well as follow up phone sessions.
