Reiki
WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki, which is pronounced Ray-Key is a Japanese word which translates to mean
universal life force or universally guided energy.
Reiki is a simple system of healing thought to have been practised for thousands
of years
and was rediscovered in the 19th Centuary by Dr.Mikao Usui of Japan.
Dr.Usui made his findings known after researching ancient Buddhist documents on
the power of healing. The secrets of reiki were passed down from master to
student over the years and were introduced into the west during the 60’s and
70’s.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK??
Reiki is said to accelerate the body's own natural ability to heal itself, on a
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. It involves the Reiki
Practitioner placing both hands on or above the animal in specific positions,
which 'opens' up the body's energy channels and helps to clear any blockages
that may be affecting the flow of Ki (or Qi/energy).
The reiki energy is non confrontational and non intrusive; it helps to soothe
away many troubles both emotional and physical. Reiki does not belong to any
religion or culture, it is a gentle unconditional way of channelling universal
energy.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ANIMAL REIKI SESSION?
An animal Reiki session is a bit different from a human Reiki session. Many
animals, especially rescue animals, are not comfortable being touched. Unlike
massage, the practitioner does not have to touch the animal to offer a Reiki
treatment. The session begins at a distance. The animal is allowed to come
closer or stay at a distance. Many times the animal will present the part of its
body that needs attention, to the practitioner, insisting that the hands be
placed there. A session can last from 10 minutes up to an hour depending on the
needs of the animal. Animals will usually let you know when they are finished
with the session by waking up, being distracted, wanting to play or walking
away. If an animal does not want healing for the full hour, the owner has the
choice of having some reiki for themselves to finish the session.
